Name of Hero:  Jerry Grimes
Tell us about what makes this person a Hero?:  I’m writing in regards to the everyday hero contest. We live in a subdivision that takes pride in our homes and yards etc. This is about one of our neighbors, whose over 70 years of age Jerry Grimes. This man is a selfless, caring extra ordinary person. He does for others expecting nothing in return. There are several elderly people whose lawns he mows etc. After hurricane Matthew, he strolled across the street with chainsaw in tow. In a couple of days, an 80 foot Pine tree which had fallen on our house was gone.
We had gotten estimates of over $1500 to remove it. He refused any pay and I had to beg him to take a pre-paid gas card! After that, he and I dug for over a week to get the stump out of the ground. He removed it with his truck without doing any more damage to our yard. Now, for the past 4 to 6 months, he has been caring a disabled lady whose husband died a few years ago. He takes her to the doctor, drugstore, grocery store, etc. She has a bad hip and walks bent over. She uses a walker, but she bends over with elbows on the hand rail, against doctors’ orders. Jerry had a plan. He gathered us scrap metal, old bicycle parts including the hand brakes. He bought some PVC pipe, cut and shaped it to use as elbows rest. His invention is taller than the store bought walker. So she has to stand up fully erect as the doctor ordered. On an average day he spends 6 to 8 hours a day for caring for her, purely out of the goodness of his heart. In my eyes, he is more than an everyday hero.
Thank you.

Name of Hero:  Tommy Cramer
Tell us about what makes this person a Hero?:  Albert "Tommy" Cramer is one of the best people I know. He works as a child and adolescent therapist, and he is tireless in his pursuit of social justice for all his patients. He has worked in the mental health field for years and has a knack for seeing gaps in services offered to lower income families. He believes in providing high-quality care for everyone in the community so much so that in addition to working full time, he started a nonprofit (www.excelsiorffw.org) that provides low-cost or free services for families seeking psychoeducational seminars on parenting skills, special education advocacy, and social skills for youth. I work with Tommy, and my favorite thing to hear children yell "Mr. Tommy!!!!" when they check in for their appointments. Tommy truly is a hero!
